A True Devotion to Healing

Since 1851, the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine have shown their true devotion to healing by serving the unmet needs of children, adults and families in Ohio and South Carolina. They established the Sisters of Charity Health System in 1982 to support the Congregation in carrying out its mission in health care, education and social service.

Today, that mission lives on in the Health System through a range of health and human services outreach ministries, three grantmaking foundations and two elder care facilities in Cleveland, Canton and South Carolina. These diverse ministries live out the healing mission of Jesus by providing life-transforming services every day, touching the lives of hundreds of thousands people each year. At all levels, the Sisters of Charity Health System is a trusted resource for those in need of physical, psychological or spiritual wholeness.

Charitable Giving Meets Many Needs

Charitable giving is essential to our mission. Your support will help heal individuals, families and communities, helping fund essential programs that provide food, education, health care, early childhood development, medical respite, elder care services and more. To learn how, read more about our sponsored ministries. Or, read the impact stories below for real-life examples of how your help can make a difference in someone’s life.

Your Donation Goes Further

We are a family of ministries connected by a health system. Our relationship enables us to freely share best practices and resources. This significantly reduces overhead costs and helps us constantly improve. The bottom line: more of every dollar given actually helps people in need.

With your help, we can carry on our faith-based legacy of high quality, compassionate care for all of God’s people.

Ways to Give

A one-time or recurring gift of cash is quick and easy, but there are many additional options to consider to make the greatest possible impact. There are also benefits for you as a donor. Certain types of gifts can qualify as a tax deduction while others can reduce taxable income, offering a strategic way to give while managing tax liability.

Support our mission today with a gift that delivers help and hope where it’s needed most with a one-time or recurring gift.

DONATE NOW

You can give beyond the checkbook by contributing appreciated assets — like stocks, mutual funds or cryptocurrency — to maximize your impact and unlock potential tax advantages.

  • Appreciated Securities – Donating stocks, mutual funds or bonds usually qualifies you for a tax deduction equal to their current market value and avoids capital gains tax. As a tax-exempt organization, we can sell the securities tax-free, ensuring proceeds support your ministry of choice. You can make your donation online right now using the FreeWill stock donation tool. Learn More
  • Cryptocurrency – Donating cryptocurrency allows you to avoid capital gains tax while supporting a meaningful cause. • Endowment Giving – Endowment giving can include a bequest (gift in will or living trust), charitable gift annuity, beneficiary designation, life insurance and charitable trusts. An endowment (deferred) gift allows you to make a lasting impact through a gift of cash or other assets while also allowing you or your heirs to benefit from those assets as long as needed. • Gifts in Will or Trust – Including a charitable gift in your will or living trust creates a legacy of generosity that benefits future generations. Bequests can be for a set dollar amount or portion of assets, and be structured as contingent or outright. Through our partnership with FreeWill, you can even create or update your will online in as little as 20 minutes. Learn More
  • Giving by Beneficiary Designation — Designating a beneficiary for your life insurance policies, annuities, donor-advised fund and bank, brokerage and retirement accounts ensures that certain assets transfer directly to an intended recipient without the delays and costs of probate. Many financial institutions offer easy online updates, and FreeWill provides tools to help organize and track your beneficiary information. Learn How

  • Charitable Giving from an IRA – If you’re required to take a distribution from your IRA in a certain tax year, but don’t need the income, a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) allows you to donate directly from your IRA, reducing your taxable income. You can even make your gift online using the FreeWill QCD tool. Learn How
  • Charitable Gift Annuity – A charitable gift annuity (CGA) allows you to make a meaningful donation while still receiving lifelong income. Your planning today supports the work of the Sisters of Charity Health System tomorrow. When you make a deferred gift, you help ensure that we can continue to support the unmet needs of individuals, families and communities well into the future.

We have partnered with FreeWill, a service that makes it possible to create or update your will or living trust — for free — in 20 minutes or less! When you do, we ask that you consider including a gift to our ministries in your will. Click here to get started on your will or living trust. If you have already included a gift to us in your will or living trust, we would love to discuss the way that your gift should be used and how you would like to be.

If you want to make a gift of significance now but still need the income generated by your assets, a charitable gift annuity (CGA) may be a great option. Complete this brief form or contact Mark Cotleur at 216.696.8401 or mcoticer@sistersofcharityhealth.org to request a quote customized for you.

You can direct that holdings in retirement savings and bank accounts, such as 401(k)s, IRAs and CDs, be transferred or paid to us upon your death without going through probate. You do not need to change your will. Please consult an updated beneficiary designation form with your financial institution. Many financial institutions and plan administrators even permit making or updating these designations online. Click here for more information and a link to a FreeWill tool for tracking your beneficiary designations.

If your family no longer needs your life insurance policy, you can make us the beneficiary or even the owner. By transferring ownership, you may be able to deduct the cash value of the policy as well as the cost of the premiums in years to come. Click here for more information.

If your estate is particularly large or complex, gift instruments such as charitable lead trusts and charitable remainder trusts may be worth considering. Click here for more information.
